An exhibition featuring new work by Tasmanian designers inspired by dining experiences at Hadley’s Orient Hotel.
Made from Tasmanian timbers, glass, ceramics, linen, silk, silver and gold, the exhibition is a feast for our eyes with historic table settings reimagined with Tasmanian materials and motifs – sugar-sculpture table displays rendered in glass, elegant tea caddies matched to former guests, hand-printed napkins, and botanical cocktail picks. The exhibition also explores dining attire with hand-died silk bowties, and fabulous hand-made shoes.
As Hadley’s was one of the first places in Tasmania to install electric lights meaning people could dine later, lights also feature in this exhibition with modernist designs illuminating grains of Tasmanian timbers like a decadent, layered cake.
